Archibald Library

Renew online using the "My Account" Feature! All you need is your 14-digit student number to see what books you have out, when they are due, and renew them online. Please note that you cannot renew books if another patron has requested them, have reached the maximum number of renewals, or the fines and fees on your account exceed the maximum allowed. For all other issues with renewing your books, please contact library staff.

All students, faculty, and staff of Briercrest Christian Academy and Briercrest College and Seminary (including distance learning students) have library borrowing privileges. Caronport residents and residents from vicinities surrounding Caronport may apply for borrowing privileges at the library circulation desk. There is no charge for this service. Other individuals who would like to borrow items from our library are encouraged to use their local, regional, or school library for ILL access. Please note that all borrowers are responsible for keeping their contact information current.

Loans

• College, high school students and community members: two weeks
• Seminary and distance learning students: three weeks
• Faculty: four months
• Audio cassette and compact disc recordings:  two weeks (everyone)
• Videos: one week (everyone)

Renewals

Renewals are for two weeks for all patrons (videos are one week). Items may be renewed up to three times. All books are subject to a 24 hour recall.

Check-out limit

A maximum of 15 items may be checked out at any time by on-campus students (17 items for seminary students). Community members and distance learning students have a limit of 10 items at a time.

Circulation restrictions

The following collections do not circulate: periodicals, fiche/microfilm, vertical/missions files, and reference material.

Overdue items

Each overdue item is charged $0.25 per day up to a maximum of $10.00 per item. Our fines are modest, as typical fine rates at academic libraries range from $0.50 to $1.00 per day. Borrowers are allowed to owe up to $10.00 in fines before further borrowing is put on hold.

Students with unpaid fines of $5.00 or more will incur an additional charge of $5.00 at the end of each month, which will be transferred to their student account at the finance office.

Fines may be paid by cash, debit/credit card, or cheque at the circulation desk. We cannot accept Flex payments.

Lost books

Borrowers are held financially responsible for all items checked out with their ID card. Any books lost or damaged must be paid for through a charge based on the replacement cost of the book, plus an additional service charge of $20, and any outstanding fines.

Food and drink

In the effort to conserve library materials and maintain a clean library environment, food and snacks are not allowed in the library. Drinks are permitted in sealed containers.

Library furniture

The library offers a variety of comfortable seating options, including tub chairs, carrels, and tables, for students to use while studying. Please help us preserve our furniture by not moving it around the library. Feel free to put your feet up on the coffee tables, but please remove your shoes first.

Conversation

The library is designed to be a space conducive to both group and individual study and research. Please respect the study needs of other library users.

Borrowed items

Library users are responsible for all items checked out with their ID card.

Use of Library Cards

The use of another patron's card is not permitted. Only the person to whom the card belongs may use the card. Patrons must present their library card to borrow; no card, no books.

Theft

Unauthorized removal of library items will result in a $25 fine per item, in addition to replacement costs.

Library Director

Abigail Durkee

Abigail provides oversight to all the functions of the library and leads the staff in providing excellent and efficient service to students and faculty. Abigail also manages the institutional archives and plans information literacy for library users. Contact Abigail if you have questions about library operations, the archives, or wish to plan an information literacy session.

Circulation Clerks

Emily Ens, Simon Hoeppner and Juwon Lee.

You will find one of these people staffing the circulation desk during the evening and on the weekend. They are present to assist you with borrowing and returning items. Feel free to ask them any questions that you may have, and they will help you or direct you to someone who can help you.

Library Supervisor

Carla Hoffmann

Carla is responsible for cataloguing new material in the library and facilitates interlibrary loans for books or journal articles. Carla also serves as circulation staff supervisor and the library proofreader for seminary theses.

Library Assistant

Emily Pinter

Emily assists with library circulation and processes incoming serial issues among many other responsibilities. Contact her if you have questions about items placed on reserve.

Bookbinder
