Internships

Christian Ministry Intership
Christian Ministry internships are available to students in the Christian Ministry degree program who have completed 75 credit hours. The 18-credit-hour internship (9 credit hours per semester) is the capstone of the degree and lasts for a minimum of seven months, typically beginning in the fall and ending in the spring.
An internship is a crucial step toward vocational ministry, providing a practical, supervised, and immersive experience in the tasks, attitudes, and skills necessary for ministry. The purpose is to help students discern future vocational possibilities, cultivate spiritual maturity, and reflect theologically on the practice of ministry. Interns will also develop a working relationship with an experienced ministry practitioner who serves as their mentor.
Students in the Christian Ministry program must choose a concentration for study: Youth Studies, Children’s Studies, Pastoral Studies, or Worship Arts. Each concentration offers specialized courses in that field of study. In addition, the Christian Ministry program offers formative, applicable ministry training courses.
The type of internship must align with the program outcomes of the student’s concentration. For example, a concentration in Children’s Studies will work with children, Youth Ministry must work with youth, etc.
In addition, the placement site mentor must have the required experience and credentials to receive an intern. Briercrest helps students find internship placement sites, but it does not place students in churches. Students are ultimately responsible for securing their own internships. Each mentor and placement site must be approved by the Program Coordinator.
How do i apply?
- Meet with your Program Coordinator to discuss internship possibilities. You will receive a copy of the Internship Handbook and Learning Contract.
- Work with your Program Coordinator to determine your internship placement site and mentor. Once you reach agreement on the placement site, send your mentor copies of the syllabi, Internship Handbook, and Learning Contract.

Once your Program Coordinator receives your application, they will notify you about the status of your approval. The Program Coordinator may need to contact the mentor to determine if they meet the qualifications.

Other Interships
In general, internships are available to our college students who have completed 60 credit hours or more and have been accepted into a degree program offering an internship. Some programs allow for internships with less than 60 credit hours. Check with your program coordinator for internship pre-requisites.
For most programs, see the following internship process and application form.
